The first weekend in September comes alive to this colourful outback event. Attracting visitors from all parts of Australia and the world via road and aircraft and is one of the most remote official horse races.

 

Now in its 135th year, the first race meeting was originally held in 1882 as an event for hack and stock horses with a few local spectators. The carnival now includes a 13-race program and is a much sought after trophy and is famous throughout the world.

 

In addition to the 13-race program other entertainment includes the Royal Flying Doctors Cocktail Party, Fun Run, Fashions on the Field, Fred Brophy's Boxing Troupe and a variety of food vendors.

 

It's rugged, it's remote and it's a totally unique Australian experience that you must do at least once in this lifetime!

TIPS:

 

Wear shoes (rather than thongs) to avoid the three corner jacks (bindies).

Bring your own tent / swag / camping chair OR rather than lugging your own gear think about renting a tent, sleeping bag, pillow, chair, esky etc via Rent-a-Tent and it will be all there waiting for you at Birdsville! Easy!
